Foresthill, CA

The following pictures were taken up in Foresthill, about 20 miles from Auburn. Auburn is located about 35 miles above Sacramento in the Sierra mountains. The logwork for this home was done by Pacific Log Homes, located in British Columbia. The owner had Pacific Log Homes use large Engelmann Spruce logs, some with diameters of greater than 20 inches. After seeing this home being constructed, I am putting Pacific Log Homes on my list of possible companies to do the logwork on my home.

The home is 3200 square feet with a 1000 square foot walkout basement. I wish I had taken more pictures, but the owner walked up and asked what I was doing in his home. Turned out to be a real nice guy, and we talked for about 30 minutes, at which time it was too dark to take more pictures.

The crane is setup next to the log truck for assembly.

The front door and what is being constructed as the entry way. Foundation is a part of the basement.

A better shot of the crane.

A friend of mine standing in the front door opening.

This is taken from inside the living room. Second story is not added on top yet.

7/27/2001 - I was able to visit the above house 4 months later at the end of July and the above house can be seen to be coming together really nicely. The logwork on this home was very nice, with good tight scribes and corners. The owners of this house are on their way to owning their dream home, and the property they have purchased up in Foresthill was spectacular to say the least. They will need to clear some trees, but the view overlooks the Sierra Mountain range and is just gorgeous. The owners were such nice people, and spent a couple hours talking with me and showing me their log home. I cannot thank them enough, they were very helpful to me in explaining the various phases of log home construction and/or what problems they have run into.

Here is what the door and window keyways look like from the loghome manufacturer.

Windows up inside the entry way, waiting completion.

From inside the living room, this will be a spectacular view when complete.

View from the outside decking on the backside of the house.

Log staircase with entry behind, I am standing in the living room.

A view of the kitchen from the living room.

The dining room from the living room, located towards the rear of the kitchen.

Window overlooking the Sierras from the dining room.

Deck off of the master bedroom.

Upstairs bedroom with the silloette of my son!

A Pozzi window, a nice looking affordable window. This is the standard green, similar to what me and my wife would like.

The upstairs loft area, which sits up over the living room.

The front of the house, which looks quite different than it did 4 months ago.

The front entry with some lovely log work.

One of the dormers. There are 2 dormers on each side of the house, with each bedroom upstairs having 2, along with a private bathroom for each as well. Nice setup.

7/4/2001 - the following pictures were received from Pacific Log Homes who did the log work on the above pictures. After contacting Pacific Log Homes and enquiring about a gazebo type room, they did confirm they could in fact build such a structure and have incorporated it into previous homes.

7/4/2001 - Also sent were photos of a gazebo built for placement in a yard or on decking. This would be nice to compliment a gazebo type room on a home.
